About Dr. Rado

Many patients who had unpleasant dental experience in the past postpone necessary dental treatment until teeth reach unrestorable stage and need to be extracted. In our office we offer these patients conscious sedation dentistry, sometimes called relaxation dentistry. The two most common types of sedation dentistry are:

Enteral (oral) conscious sedation

Inhalation sedation

Enteral (oral) conscious sedation

Enteral conscious sedation is administered by taking a pill. Medication has a sedative and some degree of amnestic effect for most people. Patients remember very little about their dental appointment. During the appointment all body functions of the patient remain normal, the patient is awake, but may be drowsy, and feeling very relaxed. It is imperative that somebody drives the patient to and from dental appointment.

The main reasons people need oral conscious sedation

Oral sedation is a safe and effective way of relieving the anxiety and fear
associated with going to the dentist.

Dentists have used oral medications for many years to relieve fear and
apprehension, associated with dental procedures.

It works well for most patients allowing them to relax and have little memory of
their dental appointment.

People who are afraid of needles or have trouble getting numb are often helped by
conscious sedation.

People who have painful or sensitive teeth and have a history of bad dental
experience will benefit from oral conscious sedation.

People who are troubled with a bad gag reflex are helped by conscious sedation.

People who have difficulty controlling movements, such as Parkinson’s disease or cerebral palsy are candidates for oral conscious sedation.

It is easy, you take a pill one hour prior to your dental appointment.

Patients are so relaxed and comfortable, that a large amount of complex dental treatment can be accomplished in a single dental appointment.

People who have limited time to complete their required dental treatment and want to accomplish a lot in a single visit are helped by oral conscious sedation.

The dentist can complete more dental treatment of higher quality, in a shorter period of time, on a patient who is relaxed.

Inhalation sedation

Nitrous oxide and Oxygen (“laughing gas”) has been used as the most frequent and primary means of conscious sedation in dentistry for many years.
Advantages of dental inhalation sedation are

Works well for mild to moderate anxiety

Has rapid onset and flexible duration, which can be used for any appointment length.

Dr. Rado has absolute control over the level of sedation, which may be changed from moment to moment, to meet patient’s needs.

People recover quickly, and feel fully awake and alert.

Patients can drive themselves to and from dental appointments, and can return to their normal daily activities immediately.
