Dental Implants

For teeth that are lost or damaged beyond repair, dental implants can provide a permanent replacement that maintains the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. Dental implants are small titanium cylinders with a shape and size similar to natural roots. Dental implants serve as a permanent anchorage for crowns, bridges, and dentures.

The benefits of dental implants are:

Implants improve the quality of a patient's life by enhancing one's smile and
aiding one in eating and speaking
Implants prevent bone loss, preserving the patient's youthful appearance
Implants eliminate the need to reshape healthy teeth for crowns and bridges
Implants eliminate the need for removable dentures.
In general, anyone missing at least one tooth, and healthy enough to have routine
dental treatment, including tooth extraction, is able to undergo dental implant treatment.

This procedure is usually completed in three phases.

Phase # 1. Dr Rado will examine your mouth and teeth and take a thorough medical and dental history. You will receive X-rays and possibly a CT scan, which will give Dr. Rado an assessment of your jawbone density.

Phase #2. The actual dental implant placement. The process is performed with local anesthesia or light sedation to help the patient be more comfortable. Using precise, gentle surgical techniques, the implants are placed into the jawbone and left covered for 3 to 6 months while the bone is bonding to the implant and process of osseointegration is taking place. This helps ensure a strong, solid foundation for replacement teeth. During this time, temporary bridges or dentures may be used to minimize any cosmetic or chewing inconvenience.

Phase #3. Creating and attaching the new tooth or teeth to the anchored dental implant(s) in your jaw. Dental implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth or complete dentures. Dr. Rado will recommend the best choice for you. The chosen procedure depends on several factors, such as the patient's dental health, the number of teeth involved and their location. These factors will also determine the total number of dental visits throughout the dental implant treatment period.

Dental implants are solidly incorporated into contemporary dentistry. With advanced diagnostic tools it is a predictable and reliable procedure deserving of the patient's thorough attention.
